Planning permission obtained for three applications for development of new hospital, ambulance station and integrated care centre in the City Centre.
Built to replace Peterborough’s District and Edith Cavell Hospitals, the £189 million Edith Cavell Healthcare Campus accommodates the main hospital and a new Mental Health Unit (the Cavell Centre). The 611-bed hospital has a full range of specialties including a Cancer Centre, Cardiology Centre, a dedicated Women’s and Children’s Unit and Adult and Paediatric Emergency Centres. The new City Care Centre provides quick and easy access to healthcare facilities.
Key issues included impact on the highway network and car parking, impact of helipad and associated flight paths, and amenity considerations of neighbouring properties. The planning submission included an Environmental Impact Assessment and community consultation.
The project formed part of the £335 million Greater Peterborough Health Investment Plan, and was designed by Nightingale Associates.
